Last time we caught up with Endeavour graduate Hayley Richards, she had a plant-based dessert business and was starting a plant-based grazing platters business. She was creating beautiful content for Instagram, developing recipes and running nutrition workshops. These days, Hayley’s young son is her top priority, but her career also continues to flourish.
“This year, I started working for Happy Way – an Adelaide-based company that creates superfoods and protein powders,” Hayley said. “It’s been a great way to get back into the swing of nutrition, marketing and online content after adjusting to motherhood.”
“With COVID-19, people are more focussed on their health and their home workouts. Health stores in Adelaide have suffered during the pandemic, but online businesses like Happy Way that deliver quality products right to their customers, have done well. We’ve been busy!”
Hayley is the vegan nutritionist at Happy Way. “I help to create recipes and content for Instagram and YouTube. I work with another Endeavour graduate. While she covers the entire range of products, I focus on the vegan organic products, which I love. The challenge is to keep coming up with new ideas, especially on days when you’re a little sleep-deprived.”
“Thankfully, I have a lot of flexibility in my role and lots of freedom when creating content. I also draw on my experience with my previous businesses. Desserts are still my speciality!” Hayley laughed. “My career has just evolved from where I began with Raw Karma, creating raw desserts as a hobby while I studied at Endeavour. It all grew from my fascination with a plant-based diet. I wasn’t too concerned about making it a success. I just loved exploring collaborations with different businesses, and it just grew organically. I got to know the boss of Happy Way when I was running Raw Karma because I was connecting with lots of like-minded people in the health field. So, I feel like this role at Happy Way was just meant to be.”
Hayley explained the Happy Way team makes their recipes in the company kitchen as well as styling and presenting the food. “I think it’s really important to be open to things and to let yourself be uncomfortable.” Being filmed on camera has pushed me out of my comfort zone, but I challenge myself to do it, and it’s getting easier.”
Hayley’s son is now one of her chief recipe taste testers, and she is mindful of everything that she eats in front of him. “I make sure most of it is healthy! I’m his role model, and he wants to try everything that I create!”
